
ROY LASSITER, ADVANCEMENT DIRECTOR
Roy was born in Washington DC, but raised in North Carolina. As a youth player Roy played for the Raleigh United. He went to school at North Carolina State University under George Tarantini and led the nation in scoring for 2 years. He became an All-America, All ACC, All South, and the led the ACC in scoring his Jr & Sr years. Roy was voted on the ACC 50th Anniversary Team as one of the conferences best athletes in 1992.
He played on the US Men’s National Team from 1992-2002 and earned 32 CAPS and 4 goals and was an alternate member of the World Cup Team that competed in France ’98. He played 3 years in Costa Rica and was voted Foreign Player of the year in 1995. From there he went on loan from the MLS to Genoa of the Italian Seria "B" league in 1997.
Roy played 8 years in Major League Soccer and still holds the record for most goals in a season with 27. He also led the league in scoring for 8 consecutive seasons and won the Golden Boot award two times. He was a member of the 1996 Best "11" team, a 3 time MLS All-Star and won a MLS Championship with DC United in 1999. Roy was also a US Soccer Federation Player of the Year runner-up in 1996 and Hall of Fame candidate in 2007.
Roy retired in 2004 to pursue a coaching career and has been a Director of Coaching for 5 years in Austin Texas. He has also been an Assistant Coach at Huston Tillotson University for the 3 seasons where the school earned the Red River Conference Championship in the first season. Roy was a member of ODP Region III Staff and had been a South Texas ODP head coach for 4 years.
Roy holds USSF "A" National Coaching License as well as a USSF "Y" National Coaching License for youths 6-14. He has done coaching symposiums for US Youth Soccer and has conducted over 5 National coaching education courses. Roy speaks fluent Spanish, Italian and English.
Roy graduated from North Carolina State University with a BA in Interpersonal Communication in 1992.
