COLIN WEBB GETS US NATIONAL TEAM CALL UP

Colin Webb was waiting for the call and it finally came after a final performance at the Home Depot Center with the US National Team Coaching Staff a few weeks ago. Colin will join his Albion SC teammate, Oscar Ortega in Florida as he will train with the US National Team and Staff for 10 days to try and earn a spot in the full time residency program for the US National Team players. This residency is the U17 National Team being groomed for the U17 World Cup in 2011 and is a full time program for the player to go to school and train with the US National Team full time. This program is fully sponsored by the US National Team.

" As a program we are very excited that we are now consistently preparing players for this level of play. This will be our 2nd player to attend Residency Camp with several other players being considered. We look forward to seeing Colin reach his potential, which for us we have always believed it was National Team or Professional Soccer in Europe."

Technical Director, Noah Gins

GU18 PREMIER FORWARD KATIE WAHL HAS ACCEPTED FULL SCHOLARSHIP TO PLAY D1 COLLEGE SOCCER AT WESTERN CAROLINA

Katie Wahl is heading into her Senior year of high school with her college future in place. Albion SC has helped match Katie’s desire to play college soccer at a high level with a top Division 1 program in North Carolina. After competing in the Las Vegas College Showcase and the Texas Shootout in Houston this year, Katie was presented with several offers from colleges across the country. Having just returned from visiting the campus and participating in the Western Carolina University College Camp, Katie has decided to call WCU home and has given a verbal commitment to secure her college future.

WCU is part of the UNC system and is located in Cullowhee, North Carolina in the heart of the Smoky Mountains. The Lady Catamounts were the SoCon Champions in 2001, 2005 & 2008 and have made 2 NCAA appearances, the most recent in 2008.

Katie has been a player on the rise with the program and she really has not come into her own until the last few years here. We have always seen Katie’s potential standing 6’1" tall with a great physical presence on the field, but needed to refine her technical abilities. Katie has progressed extremely well with the program over the last few years and has drawn interest from many, many colleges and universities around the country including St. Marys, University of Chicago, Northwestern just to name a few. We are very excited to push Katie onto the next level and this next year will be a preparation year for her days ahead in college.

The club expects to be able to graduate nearly 100% of the GU18 Premier team off to the college level with some sort of scholarship in place for them. Last year’s graduates from this team include Morgan Keefe (Harvard University), Kelsey Griswold (Whitworth University), Alex Mc Lauglin ( Cal State Northridge) and Casey Lockey (Cal State Fullerton). At the current time we have 3 players who have already committed with Devin Marshal going to Arizona State on a full scholarship, Brianna Chapman going to Cal State Fullerton on scholarship, and now Katie Wahl to Western Carolina on a full scholarship.

ALBION SC BU15 INVITED TO PLAY IN THE ELITE US NATIONAL LEAGUE

The Albion SC BU15 Team, continuing a consistent high level of accomplishment year in and year out, has finished up a remarkable year compiling an overall record of 46 wins, 10 losses , and 12 ties - Scoring 147 goals and allowing only 35.

They won the Albion Cup Showcase in 2008, Surf Cup Semi Finalists 2008, FWRL Champions 2008, 1 loss in the Gold Flight of Coast Soccer League 2008, Lost in PK’s of Surf Thanksgiving 2008, Nomads Showcase playing 2 years up in the U16 Flight lost in PKS in the Semi Finals 2009, Lost in Pk’s in the Semi Finals of Dallas Cup 2009, Finalist of Cerritos Memorial 2009, Lost in the Semi Finals of Region IV 2009 Championship in Pk’s, Albion Cup Champions 2009, Surf Cup Finalists 2009.

The team has just been called up by US Soccer to play in the Prestigious US National League where US Soccer brings the best 8 teams in the country together to play over 2 weekends and offer the top 2 teams a spot in the National Championship as well as incredible exposure. The team will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina in December and to Las Vegas in March to compete in this Elite League.

Albion SC’s very own Oscar Ortega has been called up to a full time position with US National Team Residency Program in Bradenton, Florida.

“Albion SC believes in maximizing potential in our players and pushing them to the highest level we can take them,” says Technical Director Noah Gins. “If as a coach you can take a player and see the potential that exists within that player and truly maximize their potential then the player and program will see maximum results. “

Oscar is a good example of a player trained and developed to reach his potential. At the age of 9 when Oscar came to tryout for Albion SC he was a very good player, he was not the best player at the time, but clearly one of the kids we recognized with some of the highest qualities and extreme potential.  And for us potential is just that, potential… It is what a player and a program can do with that potential that really means anything. When Oscar came into the club he came in with several talented players, some even at the time better than him and a few years later those players moved onto other clubs. Oscar remained loyal and committed to the team and program. As we continued to develop Oscar we put a plan together to push him to the ODP and see if the National Team would be within reach. Oscar in the first year of ODP made the team and quickly moved through the program making the Regional Team and National Pool in the first year. For the last few years the training for the team and Oscar has been very focused with high standards and discipline all while playing a very competitive schedule. The environment fostered the needs for Oscar to grow and push himself to be ready for the opportunities that would come again with the US National Team.

As a program from coaching staff down to the players that pushed Oscar to the level he is at today we are all very proud of Oscar and the program for taking this potential and fostering that into the clubs first and not last call up to the US National Team Residency Program.

Oscar was only 1 of 15 boys in his age group (1994) in the US to be invited to move to Florida to be full time with the US National Team. He will attend the Bradenton Academy for School and will train with the US National Team every day. The US National Team Staff will oversee and manage Oscar each day and all will be provided for Oscar. The players brought into Residency will be groomed for the next 2 years for the next Youth World Cup and beyond. For now Oscar will have a new challenge and with the preparation and knowledge gained at Albion SC he should go to Florida and be ready to succeed.

Oscar will depart for Florida on August 22, 2009 and will play his last games with Albion SC on August 15 and August 16 in the FWRL being played at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.  We hope to see everyone come out and support the BU15 team as they defend their FWRL Title and see Oscar perform before he leaves for the US National Team.
