2008 PSL Community Kindness Outreach
The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a series of three day, 60-mile walks that raise millions of dollars for breast cancer research, education, and community health programs.
The Breast Cancer 3-Day goals are to:
· Raise funds to support breast cancer research, education, and community health programs
· Raise awareness regarding the health threat of breast cancer and its impact on individuals, families, and society, helping more people survive this deadly disease
· Create a strong, positive community consisting of breast cancer survivors, co-survivors, persons currently undergoing treatment, and others impacted by the disease that promotes and nurtures peer support, learning, and sensitivity to issues surrounding breast cancer, both prior to, and on the events
· Provide education to a broad constituency regarding breast cancer-related issues including the critical importance of early detection
The 2008 San Diego Breast Cancer 3-Day will take place November 21 - 23, 2008.
Eighty-five percent of the net proceeds of this event go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Every advancement in breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention in the last 25 years has been touched by a Komen for the Cure grant.
The remaining fifteen percent of net funds goes to the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund, which provides ongoing support to breast cancer initiatives, so that strides made today can continue to propel us toward our goal.
Peninsula Soccer League, has committed to the following schedule:
Saturday November 22nd, from 9:30am to 1:45pm
Our assigned station along the route is located at:
Robb Field
(please note there will also be an official 3-Day stop(this stop is called a Grab N Go and will be offering the walkers Gatorade and/or water) at the field, so we will position our group lining the entrance into the field, etc.)
There are plenty of ways to show your support at your Cheering Station, such as:
Wearing a group uniform or matching T-shirts so that the walkers know who you are!
Displaying signs and decorations. Think pink!
Refreshing the walkers with squirts from a spray bottle or hose.
Handing out popsicles or candy.
Playing some fun and upbeat music.
Get creative! The possibilities are endless and the walkers will be thrilled.
Here are a few important rules to be aware of for our Cheering Station:
You may not distribute any products/materials or hang any banners that contain your logo, the Breast Cancer 3-Day logo, or the Komen for the Cure logo.
The selling of items is not permitted.
Cooking and tents are prohibited.
Our Cheering Station must be completely self-sufficient. Please do not tap into electricity, water, etc. of surrounding businesses.
While our purpose is to cheer on the walkers, please be respectful of our neighbors.
Please leave the site cleaner than when you found it and recycle anything that can be recycled. We recommend having a trash bag just outside of our site for walkers to dispose of any wrappers they might have accumulated while passing through our Cheering Station.
Our cheers of encouragement make the difference between someone feeling like they’re on their last leg and someone believing they can go that extra mile.
